The Government Delegate in Murcia, Francisco Lucas, has announced that all available resources will be mobilised this summer to ensure responsible jet ski use in the Mar Menor and to prevent illegal gatherings.

Speaking after a meeting with regional yacht club presidents in Cartagena, Lucas confirmed that an unauthorised gathering of jet skis and other leisure boats has been called for 4 July. He said the event has not been authorised and will not be permitted. The Guardia Civil, Maritime Authority and Maritime Rescue will deploy patrol boats, aircraft and officers to prevent it going ahead.

Between January and June 2026, Maritime Captaincy in the Region of Murcia opened 258 sanction procedures, a 42% increase on the same period in 2025. Of those, 34.1% were linked to jet ski offences. Authorities said common breaches include speeding in bathing areas, reckless manoeuvres, operating without the proper licence, and failing to wear approved life jackets.

A 2026 recreational boating safety campaign has also been launched by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility under the slogan “On a jet ski, use common sense”. It aims to reduce emergencies and serious offences, which rose by 11% nationwide in 2025.
