Torrevieja Municipal Theatre is celebrating the twentieth anniversary of its inauguration with a special programme under the slogan “20 years sharing culture, making the heart of Torrevieja beat”. The theatre first opened its doors on 28 June 2006 and has since become one of the leading cultural venues in the city and the wider Alicante province.

Over the past two decades, more than 600,000 spectators have attended upwards of 1,500 performances, including more than 30 musicals. More than 50 cultural and musical organisations from Torrevieja have taken part in its programming, alongside national and international companies and leading artists.

To mark the milestone, the theatre is offering guided tours of normally restricted areas, including dressing rooms and technical spaces, led by members of staff. Students from the Municipal School of Theatre will also perform staged readings. A retrospective exhibition of posters from the past twenty years will run in the theatre lobby from 25 June to 18 July.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón has said the anniversary is a tribute to culture and to the people who have made the theatre’s growth possible. He described the venue as a meeting place for creativity and community, which will continue to play a central role in Torrevieja’s cultural future.
