Rojales will begin its annual patron saint festivities in honour of Saint Peter the Apostle and the Moors and Christians this weekend, with two weeks of celebrations planned across the municipality. The official opening will take place on Saturday 20 June at 9 pm at the Malecón del Soto, featuring the presentation of standard bearers and sultans, followed by the reading of the proclamation by María Teresa Cartagena Chazarra, a physiotherapist at Hospital del Vinalopó with strong ties to local community life.

On Sunday 21 June, the traditional Gran Chupinazo will be held in Plaza de España at 12:30 pm, marking the formal start of the festivities. Later that evening, from 10 pm, the streets will host a Correfoc starting at Plaza de la Iglesia, ending with the symbolic Cremà de la Hoguera.

The programme runs until 5 July and includes nearly 60 events, ranging from religious ceremonies and the offering to Saint Peter to the Moors and Christians parades, a gunpowder battle, live music and the popular barracas at Malecón del Soto. The traditional climb to Cabezo Soler will take place on 23 June.

An inclusive Children’s Day is scheduled for 1 July, with discounted fairground rides and a music-free time slot for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Town Hall has invited residents and visitors to take part in what it describes as one of the Vega Baja’s leading festive events.
