Orihuela City Council has presented new machinery for its municipal company Ildo, which maintains parks and green areas along the coast. The equipment was unveiled on Monday at Playa Flamenca and follows a review of the first year and a half of the current contract.

The Department of Infrastructure has invested 150,000 euros in a tractor with various attachments, including a brush cutter, and a lorry with a 24-metre articulated arm. The vehicle will be used mainly for pruning palm trees and large trees. The machinery has been purchased outright, without leasing.

Ildo took over the service in February last year with 38 employees, 12 vehicles and five trailers, covering 2.5 million square metres, 213 green areas and around 7,000 palm trees. The council says investment in the coastal gardening contract has almost doubled, rising from 750,000 euros to 1.4 million euros, with increased staffing and technical resources.

Infrastructure councillor Víctor Valverde said the new equipment would help adapt the service to real needs and further improve standards. Mayor Pepe Vegara described the purchase as part of the council’s ongoing commitment to Orihuela Costa and to strengthening public services.
