Two Czech nationals have been remanded in custody after a 33-year-old compatriot was allegedly kidnapped, sexually assaulted and robbed in Guardamar del Segura.

Police say the woman initially offered the pair temporary accommodation at her home after they responded to a room rental advert. After she returned from a trip abroad, investigators believe the suspects tied her up, assaulted her and forced her to transfer money from her bank account. She was allegedly held for two days.

On 19 May, the suspects placed her in the boot of her own car and drove towards an unknown destination. During a stop near a service station in Petrer, the woman managed to escape and ran to seek help. Witnesses alerted the National Police, who issued an immediate alert for the vehicle.

The car was later stopped by the Guardia Civil in Jalance. Officers arrested a 30-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman on suspicion of illegal detention, sexual assault, assault, vehicle theft and fraudulent use of bank cards. Investigators say the victim suffered losses of more than 24,000 euros through transfers, withdrawals and attempted loans. Both suspects were ordered into pre-trial detention by a court in Torrevieja.
