A 25-year-old British man has died after striking rocks and losing consciousness while swimming at Percheles beach, in the Cañada de Gallego area of Mazarrón, Murcia.
The Region of Murcia’s 1-1-2 Emergency Co-ordination Centre received several calls at around 16:05 on Wednesday. Two young English nationals alerted operators that their friend was unconscious in the sea after hitting rocks and was struggling to get out of the water.
Civil Guard officers, Mazarrón Local Police, Civil Protection volunteers, firefighters from the CEIS consortium and a 061 emergency medical unit were dispatched. Before crews arrived, people at the scene managed to pull the man from the water.
Following telephone instructions from a 061 nurse, bystanders began CPR. Police officers continued advanced resuscitation efforts using specialist equipment until the ambulance reached the beach. However, the attending doctor was only able to confirm the man’s death at the scene.
