The Region of Murcia has recorded the eighth highest crime rate in Spain, according to the latest figures published by the Ministry of the Interior. The data show that 18,672 criminal offences were registered in the first quarter of the year.
That represents a 7.4% increase compared with the same period last year. The rise has been linked mainly to an increase in robberies and public disturbances at the start of the year.
Despite the growth in reported offences, Murcia’s overall crime rate remains below the national average. The figures place the region eighth among Spain’s autonomous communities in terms of recorded criminality.
The Ministry’s quarterly balance is based on data collected by the State Security Forces and Corps, including the Guardia Civil and National Police, across the Region of Murcia.
