Dozens of teachers have begun an indefinite camp in Valencia’s Plaza de la Virgen, saying they are frustrated by what they describe as a lack of genuine negotiation with the regional Education Department. The protest follows four weeks of strike action and near-daily demonstrations.

One of the organisers said the group was “tired of waiting” and accused the department of mocking staff. Protesters have pledged to remain in the square until talks become “real and effective”, insisting the camp will remain peaceful.

The decision to escalate action was also influenced by an incident on Sunday afternoon, when a demonstrator was allegedly assaulted by a police officer. The Government Delegation has opened disciplinary proceedings against the officer involved.

Around 20 tents have been set up so far, with organisers reporting no problems with security forces. In a statement, the group said it intends to occupy the public space indefinitely, demanding proper dialogue and measures to protect and strengthen public education in Valencia.
