Orihuela Town Hall has started a comprehensive reurbanisation of Miguel de Cervantes Avenue in Campoamor, one of the most significant projects planned for the coast during the current term. The scheme represents an investment of more than 1.2 million euros.

The council said it had examined alternatives to prevent major disruption during the summer. Infrastructure councillor Víctor Valverde said the works are fully planned to minimise inconvenience, with construction set to pause at the end of June and resume in September to avoid affecting residents and visitors during the high season.

In addition to renewing pavements, kerbs, road surfaces, lighting and signage, the project includes improvements to accessibility and traffic flow. The roundabout at the junction with Saavedra Fajardo Street will be realigned to improve safety. The town hall has also decided to replace around 1,217 metres of ageing drinking water pipes, with new connections and valves to improve supply efficiency and reduce breakdowns.

The reurbanisation of the main avenue, which serves as Campoamor’s busiest road and southern entrance, is partly funded through the Provincial Council’s Plan Planifica, covering 45% of the 883,179-euro cost, with the remainder financed by the council. A further 260,000 euros has been allocated for the three-month water network renewal.
