Local Police in San Javier have seized almost 100 electric scooters after stopping riders who were travelling without registration plates. The vehicles were intercepted during street checks carried out on Saturday.
Under current legislation, personal mobility vehicles must be officially registered in order to obtain a number plate. The requirement came into force in January this year.
The change follows Royal Decree 52/2026, which amended the General Vehicle Regulations and introduced mandatory registration for this type of transport. Authorities say the measure is designed to improve safety, accountability and compliance with traffic laws.
Police have reminded riders that failure to register their e-scooters could result in fines and confiscation of the vehicle.
