The Guardia Civil has arrested a British fugitive in Alicante during an operation against an organised crime network involved in drug trafficking and document fraud. The arrest coincided with the launch of the latest international ‘Most Wanted’ campaign led by the United Kingdom.

The investigation began in November 2025 after staff at a parcel delivery shop in Benidorm reported a suspicious suitcase. Officers discovered 16 kilograms of cannabis resin inside, destined for the UK. Enquiries identified a woman who sent the package using false documents, supported by three others.

As the investigation progressed, officers confirmed that one suspect, aged 49, was wanted by the British authorities for drug-related offences and was subject to an international arrest warrant issued in late 2025. The operation was led by Alicante’s Organised Crime and Drugs Team, with support from Spain’s Central Operative Unit and the UK’s National Crime Agency.

Searches in Benidorm and La Nucía uncovered further drugs, 4,000 euros in cash, false documentation and two vehicles. Four people have been arrested and are due to appear in court, with the main suspect to be brought before the National Court as part of extradition proceedings.
