The regional government has confirmed that it will only have time to repair three of the five jetties closed on the southern shore of the Mar Menor due to their poor condition.
The announcement came after a meeting between the Environment Department, which owns the facilities, local residents and the councillors for Decentralisation and Coastal Affairs, Francisca Martínez and Gonzalo López Pretel.
According to the regional executive, the jetties at Urrutias, Iglesia and Estrella de Mar are in a condition that would allow work to be carried out in time for them to reopen ahead of the summer season. However, the structures at Punta Brava and El Caletón have sustained much more severe damage.
Officials have said further assessments will determine what long-term action is needed for the two worst-affected jetties, as pressure grows to ensure safe access to the Mar Menor coastline.
