A small pod of dolphins has delighted onlookers after being spotted playing alongside boats off the coast of Torrevieja. The animals were photographed on Sunday morning swimming calmly near several vessels, in scenes that many described as uplifting.

Local resident Juan Carlos García captured images of the dolphins as they appeared to accompany boats just offshore. Sightings of cetaceans along the Vega Baja coastline, particularly around Torrevieja, have become increasingly frequent in recent years.

Marine experts say dolphins often approach coastal areas in search of food, especially in warm and relatively calm waters. Their presence is widely regarded as a positive sign of a healthy marine ecosystem. Bottlenose dolphins, the species most commonly seen in the area, are known for their intelligence, sociable behaviour and curiosity towards boats.

Despite breezy conditions later in the day, the dolphins continued to leap and swim in synchronised movements. Those who witnessed the display said seeing dolphins in the wild, so close to shore, was a memorable reminder of the Mediterranean’s natural treasures.
