Torrevieja’s Local Government Board has approved the lease of a three-storey building in Calle Joaquín Chapaprieta to create new municipal offices, including a Local Police post in the heart of the town.

Councillor Federico Alarcón said the decision, approved on Sunday, forms part of the government’s plan to strengthen public safety by increasing police presence in one of the busiest commercial and pedestrian areas. The building is considered strategically located and is in good condition, requiring only internal adaptation works.

The new facility will include changing rooms, showers, offices, work rooms and a dedicated public service area. The council is also considering using part of the space for Administrative Police and other departments linked to daily security and traffic management. The move is expected to ease pressure on the main police headquarters and improve response times.

The initial lease will run for four years at a total cost of 191,664 euros, including VAT, with the possibility of annual extensions up to a maximum of six years.
