The road connecting San Miguel de Salinas with the Las Filipinas–Blue Lagoon urbanisation remained closed throughout Sunday after heavy rain on Saturday morning. The closure affects access to more than 3,000 homes and is used daily by thousands of residents from Orihuela Costa and San Miguel.

The San Miguel residents’ association “San Miguel Arcángel” said the road was blocked by mud and earth washed down during the storm. Around 25 litres per square metre of rain fell in some parts of the municipality. The association’s president, Manuel Gómez, argued that an urgent clean-up could have reopened the road sooner and criticised what he described as municipal inaction.

The Local Police announced the closure on social media and said they would confirm when the road reopens. By Sunday morning, it remained shut, with barriers in place and drivers diverted via the Campoamor road or the Tajo-Segura transfer service lane.

Gómez also pointed to nearby land transformation works as a possible cause of the landslides, noting that some plots are protected under the future Sierra Escalona natural park plan. Although adapted as a secondary road, the route is considered municipally owned, limiting regional government improvements despite its heavy daily traffic and role as a key alternative to the often congested CV-95 near Torrevieja Hospital.
