Beach user satisfaction in Orihuela dropped to 67.72% during the 2025 high season, according to a new council-commissioned survey. The figure is the lowest recorded since 2009, when satisfaction stood at 83.1%, with a peak of 90% in 2021. The study was based on 1,382 questionnaires carried out between 15 June and 15 September under a three-year contract worth 36,000 euros.

Cala Capitán received the highest overall rating at 81.1%, followed by La Caleta, Cala Bosque and La Glea. Barranco Rubio was the only beach to fall below 50%, scoring 44.7%, while Punta Prima and Playa Flamenca also saw sharp declines compared with the previous year.

Lifeguard and police services were the most valued aspect, rated at 76%. However, facilities, maintenance and information panels scored significantly lower. Barranco Rubio recorded particularly poor results for cleanliness and equipment, while Playa Flamenca faced criticism over pollution and repeated closures after rainfall.

Most respondents were non-residents, and 61% said they would support smoke-free beaches. The report, commissioned by the Tourism Department, forms part of the municipality’s beach management and quality certification requirements.
