Drivers in Los Alcázares are being warned to ease off the accelerator as the council launches a week-long speed control campaign across the municipality.

The initiative runs from 8 to 15 May and will involve rotating traffic checkpoints on roads where excessive speeding has repeatedly been detected. The council says the campaign is designed to be preventative and dissuasive, rather than purely punitive, with the aim of improving road safety and reducing risky driving behaviour.

Officials have reminded motorists that local streets are shared daily by drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, making respect for speed limits essential. Speed checks will focus on Calle Jaén, Avenida Cartagena, Isla Tabarca, Avenida de la Constitución and Avenida 13 de Octubre.

The council has added that it is continuing to invest in wider safety improvements, including reinforcing street lighting in sensitive areas to improve visibility. The overall objective, it says, is to encourage more responsible driving and work towards a safer Los Alcázares for everyone.
