Rojales Town Council has won national recognition in the tenth edition of the Good Local Practices Awards against Violence towards Women. The competition is organised by the Ministry of Equality and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, highlighting outstanding local initiatives across Spain.

The award was granted for the programme “Alone: Prevention of Suicidal Ideation due to Gender-Based Violence”, in the category focused on breaking the silence through awareness and prevention. The federation praised the quality, innovation and effectiveness of the proposal, noting that it could be adapted for use in other communities.

According to the council, the recognition reflects the continued work of its Department for Equality. The project was commended for its impact, sustainability and strong gender and intersectional approach. Local officials said the award reinforces the role of municipalities in preventing and eradicating gender-based violence.

A total of 49 initiatives were submitted, with 46 evaluated after three were excluded for missing the deadline. In the same category, awards also went to projects in Almería and Picassent. Other prizes recognised initiatives in Alicante, Valencia, Ibiza, Barcelona, Tenerife and Badajoz across areas including institutional coordination, victim support and specialist training.
