The Guardia Civil has rescued a 24-year-old woman who became stranded in rough seas in a rocky coastal area of Torrevieja. The incident took place in the early hours of 31 March after a witness alerted officers that the woman had entered the sea and was unable to return to shore.

Officers arrived at the scene and spotted the woman around 50 metres from the shoreline, struggling to stay afloat due to strong waves caused by poor weather conditions. With the sea continuing to deteriorate, one officer entered the water and swam out to reach her, while a colleague coordinated support from land and alerted medical services.

By the time the officer reached her, the woman was showing signs of extreme exhaustion and was close to losing consciousness. He managed to bring her safely back to shore, where she was stabilised before being taken to Torrevieja Hospital.

She was admitted to intensive care suffering from hypothermia, which led to pneumonia, but has since been discharged and is recovering at home. The officer involved sustained minor injuries due to the rough sea and rocky terrain. The Guardia Civil has reminded the public to take extra care in hazardous coastal conditions, particularly in rocky areas.
