The Ayuntamiento de Los Montesinos has signed the official start of works for the expansion of the CEIP Virgen del Pilar. This project, included in the Plan Edificant of the Generalitat Valenciana, involves an investment of approximately three million euros, including VAT. The works are expected to commence next week and will take around two years to complete.

CEIP Virgen del Pilar is the only public school in the municipality and had previously received investment for renovations in 2021. Those earlier improvements included expanding the kitchen and creating a multipurpose room, with a total investment of one million seven hundred thousand euros. Despite gaining delegation of powers to speed up the process, progress has been slower than hoped, with the contract for the project management awarded to Gestec for two hundred and twelve thousand two hundred and thirty-seven euros in mid-2023.

The expansion project aims to construct a new building and extend the current early years facility, which will add three new units for early years education and six units for primary education. The improvements will also enhance the kitchen and dining facilities, responding to the area’s growing population of over five thousand six hundred residents.

Mayor José Manuel Butrón described the beginning of the expansion works as a significant day for the future of education in Los Montesinos, assuring that this project guarantees a modern and safe learning environment for local children. Rosa Belén Morán, the Education Councillor, praised the collaborative effort to realise this essential project that aims to provide quality public education and better facilities for the community.
