Police have arrested a man at Alicante-Elche Airport who allegedly intended to flee to the United Kingdom with stolen jewellery worth seven thousand euros. The suspect is believed to have taken the items from his aunt’s home in San Juan playa, Alicante.

The incident came to light when the victim’s son reported the theft to the Police after receiving a call from his mother, who noticed the absence of several valuable pieces. Among the stolen items were a diamond ring and a pearl necklace, both valued at seven thousand euros.

The victim suspected her nephew as the thief, knowing he had a flight scheduled to the United Kingdom, though they were unsure of the exact time. When attempts to contact him by phone were unsuccessful, they alerted the authorities.

Officers from the airport police department promptly located the suspect in a restaurant within the terminal and found the stolen jewellery in his backpack. Following appropriate police procedures, the suspect was arrested for theft and the stolen items were returned to their rightful owner. He has since been placed at the disposal of the local courts in Elche.
