The Torrevieja City Council has officially reopened seven padel and frontenis courts at the Ciudad Deportiva following a closure that lasted six years. The reopening was announced by Mayor Eduardo Dolón, who credited the delay to the management of the left-wing coalition government that governed between 2015 and 2019. The project has also seen improvements to the area’s facilities and access control. The city had approved this project in 2022, with construction awarded to the company Pavasal at a cost of one million one hundred and ninety-eight thousand euros announced at the end of 2024, though the completion timeline was extended from six months to eight.

The mayor highlighted significant public investment in sports infrastructure over the past six years, totalling more than twenty million euros. Key developments include the renovation of the Palacio de los Deportes, the construction of the La Mata sports centre, and refurbishments to neighbourhood sports courts. The city has also planned for a new heated swimming pool and the rehabilitation of the Cecilio Gallego sports hall, although the latter project lacks an approved plan at this time.

The newly reopened padel courts meet the World Padel Tour standards and feature central seating made from anchored plastic. The venue includes accessible ramps to connect various areas. In addition to the courts, there have been enhancements to lighting, the perimeter fencing, and the overall maintenance access routes. The restrooms and changing facilities adjacent to the municipal gym have also been fully refurbished.

A new café has been established between the gym and the padel courts, complementing the sporting use with a spacious outdoor terrace. The café’s management has not yet been awarded. During the renovation period, local businesses focused on padel have thrived around the Ciudad Deportiva, which now also includes public padel courts opened in La Siesta Park in March twenty twenty-four. Despite planned investments in other sports facilities facing administrative delays, the municipality remains committed to enhancing local sports opportunities.
