The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced significant traffic disruptions on the AP-7 motorway due to ongoing tunnel improvement works in Pilar de la Horadada. This project, designed to enhance energy efficiency, involves intelligent lighting management and encompasses a budget of three and a half million euros under the European NextGenerationEU fund as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

Road users should be aware that from the morning of the eighth of September, there will be a complete closure of the AP-7 in the direction of Alicante. Moreover, a full closure in the direction of Cartagena will begin at seven o’clock on the twenty-second of September. Both closures are expected to conclude on the twenty-third of September at six o’clock in the evening.

In order to facilitate traffic flow during these disruptions, an alternative route will be appropriately signposted using the N-332 road. This alternative will run parallel to the motorway section affected, stretching from the San Pedro del Pinatar/Pilar de la Horadada junction at AP-7, kilometre seven hundred and seventy-four, to the Pilar de la Horadada junction at AP-7, kilometre seven hundred and seventy.

These works will involve the installation of control and safety systems within the tunnel and necessitate the complete closure of the tunnel tube. Authorities advise all commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel during this period.
