The Department of Environment of Orihuela Council, led by Noelia Grao, has announced measures to combat the increasing presence of wild boars in agricultural areas. These actions include controlled hunting and trapping, which will be authorised following a technical assessment by the relevant local authority. Farmers have reported serious economic losses due to crop destruction and damage to irrigation systems caused by these animals.

In recent weeks, wild boars have been causing significant damages, threatening the viability of various agricultural operations and posing additional risks due to their proximity to populated areas. The necessary authorisations are granted in accordance with existing regional regulations that allow for exceptional measures to control wildlife populations when there is a verified impact on crops or infrastructure, or when human safety is at risk.

Noelia Grao has emphasised the dual priorities of protecting agricultural activities and respecting the environment. She stated that all measures are technically backed, controlled, and subsequently monitored to evaluate their effectiveness. Cooperation with farmers, hunting societies, and competent authorities will continue to ensure a comprehensive response to the issue.

The request process for these control measures operates year-round, as regulated by the Hunting Law of Valencia Community and the specific order governing wild boar control. A preliminary technical report must be submitted, along with follow-up results to aid in ongoing monitoring. The areas most affected by these incidents are reported to be La Murada and La Matanza, with additional reports concerning damage in almond production zones near the Cristo and Pujálvarez mountains, close to Torremendo.
