First large bluefin tuna farm approved off Pilar de la Horadada

The Valencian Government has authorised the first large bluefin tuna fattening farm in the region, off Pilar de la Horadada. The facility will occupy 45 hectares of maritime-terrestrial public domain. Plans for 25 cages measuring 30 metres in diameter have been replaced by ten cages measuring 50 metres, with […]

Cartagena’s feral cat population reaches 10,000

Animal charity Animur estimates that Cartagena has around 10,000 feral cats, but only about 600 have been sterilised. That is barely 6% of the estimated population. Animur says cats can produce up to three generations of kittens in a single year, allowing numbers to grow faster than volunteers can manage. Spanish councils have been legally responsible for managing feral cat colonies since 2017. Cartagena created an Animal Welfare office, but Animur says it has received very limited funding, with only […]

Orihuela Chamber backs call to widen N-332 through Torrevieja

Harmless dye caused green colour in Mar Menor, council says

Los Alcázares Town Council has reassured residents after parts of the Mar Menor turned bright green on Monday, 24 August.
