Torrevieja lifeguards criticise Eulen over staffing and equipment

Maritime Rescue saves 19 migrants off Cabo de Palos

Maritime Rescue services rescued a small migrant boat carrying 19 people off the coast of Cabo de Palos, in the Region of Murcia, on Thursday afternoon. The boat was found adrift about 12 miles from the coast. A vehicle transport ship spotted the vessel and stayed in the area until the Salvamar Draco rescue boat arrived. The migrants were taken to the port of Cartagena. The rescue was reported on 3 September 2026, with the latest update issued at 21:02.

August 2026 was the hottest on record in the Valencian Community

August 2026 has been the hottest August on record in the Valencian Community, according to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, AEMET. The average temperature was 26.5°C, which was 2.1°C above the reference climate average. The hottest day was 19 August, when westerly winds pushed temperatures above 42°C across many coastal and inland areas of Valencia and Alicante. Carcaixent reached 44.5°C and Xàtiva recorded 44.3°C. Cala Piteras reopens after sewage contamination

Cala Piteras in Torrevieja has reopened for swimming after new water tests confirmed that it meets all the required standards for recreational use. The beach was closed as a precaution on Wednesday after sewage contamination was detected. It remained closed until almost 2pm on Thursday, when the council said the water quality parameters had returned to normal. Torrevieja Council has opened registration for a new Spanish course for international residents who are registered in the city. Applications can be submitted until Tuesday, 15 September, with classes scheduled to begin in October. The course will be delivered by Be Magic academy and will cater for beginner and intermediate levels. Man climbs façade to break into Cartagena municipal building

A man has broken into a municipal building on Cuatro Santos Street in Cartagena during the past weekend. He gained access by climbing up the building’s façade to the balcony on the first floor before entering the property. Customers at bars in the central street, in Cartagena’s historic centre, witnessed the incident. An image showing the man’s route into the building circulated widely on social media on Wednesday.
