The public prosecutor has asked for Begoña Gómez and her adviser to be acquitted in a case that is due to go before a jury in Madrid.

Gómez, the wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, is facing accusations of influence peddling and misuse of public funds.

Her adviser, Cristina Álvarez, is also accused of misuse of public funds.

The Fiscalía says the alleged actions do not constitute a criminal offence.

A separate public prosecution is seeking prison sentences.

Both defendants deny wrongdoing.
