Hadush Kebatu, a forty-one-year-old man from Ethiopia, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a fourteen-year-old girl and a woman in Epping, Essex. The incidents occurred on the seventh and eighth of July, where Kebatu touched the girl and made inappropriate comments, including a desire to have a child with her. His arrest prompted protests outside The Bell Hotel, where he was staying as an asylum seeker.
The court heard disturbing testimony regarding Kebatu’s actions, including attempts to kiss the girl and inappropriate touching of both victims. Eyewitness accounts revealed that he propositioned the girls in a public setting, insisting that age was irrelevant. The girl described feeling sickened by his advance, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
