Former Conservative minister Nadine Dorries has officially defected to Reform UK, declaring the Tory Party dead and urging its members to consider the unthinkable future. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Dorries, who served as the MP for Mid-Bedfordshire and had been a close ally of Boris Johnson, expressed her concerns over the direction of her former party. This shift is part of a broader trend, with other notable figures such as former Welsh Secretary David Jones and ex-Tory Chairman Sir Jake Berry also moving to Reform UK.
Dorries emphasised that her decision to leave the Conservatives was agonising and took her twelve months to reach. She labelled the removal of Boris Johnson from office by Conservative MPs as
