Spain’s unemployment figures saw a slight increase at the end of August two thousand twenty-five, with the number of registered unemployed rising by twenty-one thousand nine hundred and five individuals, or zero point ninety-one per cent, compared to the previous month. This brought the total to two million four hundred and twenty-six thousand five hundred and eleven, the lowest level since August two thousand seven. Year-on-year, unemployment has dropped by one hundred and forty-five thousand six hundred and ten people, or five point sixty-six per cent.
The changes are felt across various economic sectors, with agriculture experiencing a decline of one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine, while construction, industry, and services saw increases in unemployment figures. Particularly notable was the shift in the services sector, which accounted for over twenty-one thousand additional unemployed individuals.
In terms of gender, female unemployment rose by eleven thousand seven hundred and forty-eight women, while male unemployment increased by ten thousand one hundred and fifty-seven. However, both categories have seen significant declines on a yearly basis compared to August twenty-four, with men experiencing a decrease of sixty-six thousand six hundred and eighty-three and women a reduction of seventy-eight thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven.
Despite the challenges, the total number of contracts registered in August was over one million, with three hundred and eighty-five thousand eight hundred and fifty-six of these being indefinite, representing thirty-seven point one per cent. Additionally, the unemployment coverage rate stands at eighty-two point thirty-nine per cent, the highest recorded outside the pandemic period, reflecting a robust safety net for those facing unemployment.
