In Torrevieja, Alicante, agents from the Guardia Civil have apprehended a nineteen-year-old man on charges of violent robbery and theft. The suspect is accused of stabbing an elderly woman during a robbery attempt and also stealing a gold chain using the ‘snatch’ method. The local court has ordered his provisional custody without bail.

This investigation, part of operation ‘Cheria-25’, began in late June when officers received reports of a violent robbery in the entrance of a residential property. The young man reportedly followed the elderly victim from a supermarket and, upon encountering resistance, attacked her with a knife, leading to significant injuries that required hospitalisation.

Following a thorough review of security camera footage, investigators were able to identify the suspect. He was also linked to a separate incident involving the theft of a gold chain. In response to suspicions that he could be at a beach promenade, the Guardia Civil set up a special surveillance operation which successfully led to his arrest.

This operation has been carried out by the Investigation Area of the Torrevieja Main Post and the arrested individual has been presented to the Torrevieja Examining Magistrate’s Court. The Guardia Civil has emphasised that this initiative aligns with the Senior Safety Plan aimed at enhancing security and trust for older citizens.
