The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has expanded its alert regarding the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in several varieties of Brie and Camembert cheeses imported from France. The affected products, which are under scrutiny, include the ‘Brie Meule’ and ‘Camembert du caractere vieux porche’. These cheeses have been distributed across various autonomous communities including Andalucía, Aragón, Cantabria, Cataluña, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Murcia, Valencia, and the Basque Country. Additional redistributions to other regions are possible.

Specifically, the ‘Camembert du caractere vieux porche’ carries expiry dates of the fifteenth and twenty-seventh of August twenty twenty-five for the two hundred and fifty gram units. The ‘Brie Royal Faucon’ has an expiry date of the first of September twenty twenty-five, weighing in at one kilogram. Another affected cheese, ‘Brie Meule’ from the Mariotte brand, has various lot numbers associated with expiry dates from the eighteenth of August to the first of September twenty twenty-five, all weighing one kilogram each.

The agency strongly advises individuals who may have purchased these products to refrain from consuming them. If any individual has already consumed one of the affected cheeses and experiences symptoms consistent with listeriosis such as vomiting, diarrhoea, or fever, it is essential to seek medical help. Pregnant women are urged to follow the agency’s guidelines on food consumption during pregnancy, which emphasise the importance of food hygiene practices and outline foods to avoid due to potential biological hazards, including Listeria monocytogenes.

This information has been communicated to the competent authorities in the respective autonomous communities through the Rapid Information Exchange System, and the Centre for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies, aimed at ensuring the withdrawal of affected products from commercial channels and to report any possible cases.
