Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is scheduled to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the third of September at ten Downing Street, the official residence of the British prime minister. According to government sources, this will mark Sanchez’s first official bilateral meeting with Starmer in his capacity as Prime Minister, despite Sánchez having travelled to the UK on four previous occasions.

The agenda is expected to centre on the recently established agreement concerning Gibraltar, which involves Spain, the UK, and the European Union. Initially discussed during a previous meeting between the two leaders when Starmer took office in July twenty twenty-four, the agreement aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Spain and the UK.

Additionally, the two Prime Ministers had a telephone conversation in June this year, during which they celebrated what they termed ‘a great opportunity’ that the Gibraltar accord presents for enhancing bilateral ties. This meeting presents a significant moment for both countries’ leadership.

Further information about Pedro Sánchez’s international agenda for the final quarter of the year is anticipated to be released towards the end of this month.
