The ongoing wildfire situation in Galicia remains critical, particularly in the municipality of Vilardevós, where five hundred and seventy hectares have already burned. Although the Military Emergency Unit has confirmed that no flames are currently active, they continue to monitor the area closely for any signs of re-ignition. As a precautionary measure, emergency status level two remains in effect due to the fire’s proximity to populated areas.
Efforts to extinguish the Vilardevós fire involve a substantial response, including the deployment of four technicians, thirty-three agents, forty-three brigades, thirty-two firefighting pumps, six bulldozers, ten helicopters, and ten planes. The Consellería de Medio Rural has issued an appeal for both responsibility and caution from the public in the face of these wildfires.
In conjunction with the Vilardevós fire, there are also three active wildfires in Ponteceso, A Coruña. The fires started over the weekend, with one affecting twenty hectares, another burning fifty hectares, and a third impacting one hundred and fifty hectares. Fortunately, the fire in A Cañiza, Pontevedra, has stabilised after previously being classified as emergency status level two.
The Rural Ministry has reminded citizens that the emergency hotline number zero-eight-five is available to report any forest fires. Additionally, an anonymous and free hotline number, nine hundred, eight hundred and fifteen, zero-eight-five, is available for reporting any criminal fire-related activities.
