The Supreme Court of Spain has archived a complaint filed by the Vox party against Congress President Francina Armengol, citing ongoing investigations into the acquisition of sanitary materials in other judicial organs. Vox filed the complaint in October twenty twenty-four, alleging irregularities regarding mask contracts made while Armengol was the president of the Balearic Islands. The court determined that pursuing an investigation would be unjustified and redundant given existing inquiries.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court highlighted that the allegations, which included claims of embezzlement and false statements, lacked sufficient evidence to warrant further investigation. The court added that only if there were indications of wrongdoing against Armengol would the case be escalated to the Supreme Court’s Criminal Chamber.

The original complaint by Vox claimed that a public contract between the Balearic Health Institute and a company named Soluciones de Gestión was marked by irregularities in procurement procedures. It alleged that the contract for one million four hundred eighty thousand six hundred masks was awarded without meeting necessary standards in validity or transparency. Despite these allegations, Armengol’s office reiterated her commitment to truth amidst accusations from the far-right.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court noted that the ongoing inquiries will cover multiple contracts linked to the procurement of masks and other forms of medical supplies worth millions, ensuring that any necessary accountability is enforced through appropriate judicial channels.
