An earthquake with a magnitude of five point five on the Richter scale occurred in the Mediterranean Sea off the Cabo de Palos coast, approximately thirty two kilometres from Níjar in Almería. The tremor struck at seven thirteen this morning, with a depth of two kilometres below sea level.

The Spanish National Geological Institute reported the event and subsequent data show that it was felt across numerous regions. More than thirty calls were made to the Andalucía emergency services, predominantly from within Almería province, although all remained safe with no reported injuries or material damage.

The quake affected nearly three hundred towns across seven provinces, including Almería, Granada, Málaga, Jaén, and regions in Levante such as Murcia, Alicante, and Albacete. Particularly strong vibrations were recorded at intensity levels four to five in seventeen municipalities within Almería.
