Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, alongside his brother André Silva, has been confirmed dead following a car accident on a Spanish motorway. The incident occurred early last Thursday when their Lamborghini reportedly suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking on the A52 motorway in Zamora province. Guards from Spain’s Guardia Civil are investigating the crash further and have indicated that excessive speed could have been a contributing factor.

Evidence suggests that Jota was driving at the time of the accident, with police stating that tyre marks were visible approximately one hundred metres from the point of impact. The intensity of the resulting fire has complicated the investigation, which aims to establish a clear account of events leading up to the crash.

Tragically, this accident took place just eleven days after Jota’s marriage to Rute Cardoso in Portugal. The couple shared three children and was en route to Santander as Jota prepared for his pre-season training with Liverpool.
