In response to the mounting political turmoil linked to corruption allegations against Santos Cerdán, PSOE and Sumar convened to reassess their coalition agreement. The meeting includes significant figures such as MarÃa Jesús Montero, Félix Bolaños, and Ernest Urtasun. The urgency of this gathering stems from the recent developments surrounding Cerdán, who is currently in custody after being implicated in corruption charges.
Yolanda DÃaz, the second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour, has expressed concern to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez regarding the direction of the government. She insists that the legislative term will significantly rely on Sánchez’s delivery of clear actions against corruption, stating that failure to do so poses a risk to their political stability.
During the discussions, the need for urgent reforms has been highlighted, including limitations on parliamentary immunity and stringent measures against corruption. DÃaz has also underscored the necessity for the government to push forward with social agendas, covering areas such as housing, parental benefits, and workers’ rights.
The meeting precedes a crucial Federal Committee talking led by Sánchez, scheduled for Saturday, and will also lead to his accountability session in Congress concerning the corruption allegations. As the coalition grapples with pressing issues, the government seeks to navigate through the instability by addressing both corruption and social welfare reforms.
