Data from the General Council of the Judiciary indicates that between January and March of two thousand twenty-five, Spain recorded a total of seven thousand three hundred thirty-four evictions. Catalonia led with two thousand sixty-nine occurrences, representing twenty-eight point two percent of the national figure. Following Catalonia, AndalucÃa reported one thousand one hundred twenty-five evictions, while the Valencia Community witnessed seven hundred ninety-four and Madrid recorded seven hundred two.
Although the total number of evictions has decreased by seventeen point nine percent compared to the same period last year, those resulting from unpaid rent have increased by three point seven percent, while evictions due to mortgage foreclosures saw a notable drop of six percent. The data illustrates that a significant proportion, approximately seventy percent, of evictions were associated with the Urban Lease Law, primarily due to rental arrears.
In terms of evictions resulting from unpaid rent, Catalonia accounted for twenty-seven point thirty-two percent with one thousand five hundred forty-two cases. AndalucÃa, Madrid, and the Valencia Community followed with eight hundred seven, six hundred fourteen, and five hundred ninety-one evictions, respectively. On the other hand, Catalonia also topped the list for evictions due to foreclosure with three hundred fifteen cases.
Overall, the report highlights the ongoing challenges in the Spanish housing market, with a significant rise in rental prices affecting the quality of life for many residents. While the total number of evictions has decreased overall, the pressures stemming from rental payments continue to be a crucial issue for many families.
