A search operation in Leganés, Madrid, successfully located an elderly couple suffering from Alzheimer’s who had gone missing following extreme heat conditions. The National Police utilised drones from their Air Unit to assist in their search and recovery. High temperatures reportedly led the couple to become disoriented and ultimately lost.

The search first found the man, who had fallen into a two-metre ditch. He was unable to extricate himself when located by a community safety patrol. Meanwhile, the drone footage allowed officers to locate the woman, who was found unconscious in a large farm field approximately three hundred metres away from her partner.

Emergency responders from Summa one hundred twelve worked closely with the National Police to reach the woman. Upon arrival, they identified that she was suffering from dehydration due to the heat. After stabilising her, both elderly individuals were transported to a medical centre for further evaluation.

The quick response of the authorities and the use of technology such as drones played a crucial role in the safe recovery of the couple, highlighting the importance of swift response in emergencies, especially during extreme weather conditions.
