Félix Bolaños, the Minister of Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, announced the government’s unwavering support for State Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz on Monday. This declaration comes in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling to prosecute García Ortiz over allegations of confidential information disclosure. Bolaños emphasised the importance of the presumption of innocence and stated that there is no reason for the Attorney General to resign.

During an event accompanying García Ortiz, Bolaños reaffirmed the government’s confidence in the judiciary, highlighting their commitment to supporting prosecutors who pursue legal transgressions. He labelled García Ortiz as an exemplary public servant who continues to fight against crime despite personal costs.

Meanwhile, Sumar, a coalition partner of the PSOE, expressed concerns that the prosecution sends a message of impunity regarding Madrid’s President Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Sumar’s spokesperson, Lara Hernández, voiced that the prosecution may overshadow potential corruption related to Ayuso’s entourage.

In contrast, Podemos Secretary General Ione Belarra stated that this legal action is a result of the PSOE’s failure to halt a long-standing smear campaign against the left. She condemned the situation where García Ortiz faces prosecution while alleged corrupt figures remain in power, underlining the politicised nature of the proceedings.
