Elisabeth Gil, aged thirty-seven, has been confirmed as the final victim of the severe floods in Valencia that occurred on the twenty ninth of October. This unfortunate news raises the total number of confirmed deaths to two hundred twenty-eight. The Data Integration Centre, which was established in response to the disaster, has officially announced its dissolution after reporting two hundred twenty-seven fatalities.

Elisabeth, a devoted mother of two children, went missing in the town of Cheste after her vehicle was dragged away by torrential waters. Her mother’s body was recovered, but Elisabeth’s remained elusive until now. The vehicle was later found, empty, in the Barranco del Poyo. Over a period of seven months, the Centre documented the recovery of two hundred twenty-four identified bodies and three others, whose death certificates were issued by various courts in Valencia.

The final recorded victim, previously unaccounted for by the Centre, was a woman battling leukaemia. She died in Hospital La Fe on the twelfth of November, after she lost access to her necessary medical treatment. Judicial sources indicate that this case was not included in the Data Integration Centre’s count due to the absence of an autopsy and a disappearance report.

Although the Centre’s work has now concluded, the institutions involved continue to fulfill their responsibilities concerning the ongoing search for missing persons. The locations where the majority of bodies were recovered include Paiporta, Catarroja, and Alfafar, though not all victims were residents of these areas as some were swept away by the floods.
