Alberto Núñez Feijóo will stand unopposed as the leader of the People’s Party after competitor José Luis Bayo failed to gather the required endorsements for candidacy. Bayo, who previously aimed to challenge Feijóo, did not submit the hundred endorsements needed on time, attributing the issue to a cyber-attack on the website for collecting the signatures.

Feijóo has amassed over ninety-four thousand endorsements, a significant increase from fifty thousand in two thousand twenty-two. His leadership re-election will take place at the party’s National Congress in early July, where he will be the only candidate on the ballot.

He kicks off his campaign this Friday in Valladolid, with plans to travel to various locations including Zaragoza and Madrid. The People’s Party describes its current ambitions as a renewal effort to overcome corruption and foster democratic principles.

Additionally, Feijóo has called for a protest against the government on June eighth, driven by concerns over alleged corruption related to the Socialist Party. He emphasises the need for the People’s Party to lead the response to perceived threats against justice and democracy in Spain.
