Two men have been arrested in the Costa Blanca region of Spain for the attempted murder of an Irish national. The victim, a twenty-one-year-old man, is currently fighting for his life in an intensive care unit after suffering a gunshot wound to the head near a shopping centre in Orihuela Costa on May thirteenth.

The Civil Guard confirmed that the suspects, aged twenty-seven and forty-five, were detained following witness statements and analysis of the evidence related to the shooting, which took place in a leisure area close to the Zenia Boulevard Shopping Centre. Among the evidence collected was a bag containing a revolver, ammunition, and the victim’s mobile phone.

Following the arrests, one of the suspects has been remanded in prison, while the second has been released on bail but is prohibited from leaving the country. The authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the shooting and have not named any of the individuals involved in the case.

The investigation continues as detectives focus on gathering more information about the incident and the victim’s associates. The community remains in shock over the violent act, as the young man clings to life in hospital, with updates awaited on his condition.
