Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has visited Istanbul to hold discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The two leaders focused on the growth of bilateral trade relations and identified potential expansion in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and technology. Sánchez highlighted Turkey’s strategic importance for Spanish businesses.

The talks also covered security and defence cooperation, as well as Turkey’s relationship with the European Union. They addressed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, with a specific focus on coordinating efforts for peace and the two-State solution.

Sánchez called for an end to violence and the systematic blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He mentioned Spain’s proposal for a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly, urging Israel to lift the blockade and allow unrestricted access for humanitarian assistance.

On the topic of Ukraine, the Spanish Prime Minister thanked Turkey for its role as a mediator in seeking an end to the war of aggression by Russia, aiming for a just and lasting peace. Sánchez concluded by inviting Erdoğan to participate in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, scheduled to take place in Sevilla from the thirtieth of June to the third of July next year.
