The inquiry centres on the leak and manipulation of an emergency audio clip recorded during severe weather conditions on the twenty-ninth of October, which was initially shared in part by the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón.

Aemet highlighted that the released audio did not represent the full conversation, leading to public confusion regarding ongoing weather alerts. The original context indicated that there was a continuation of a red alert, which was not communicated effectively in the excerpt shared on social media.

In response to the situation, Aemet issued a statement asserting that their protocol was followed and confirmed that the red alerts remained valid. They clarified that the full details, which included significant weather developments, were omitted in the shared fragment.

The investigation stems from a complaint that Aemet filed in March that alleged the breach of confidentiality regarding the emergency communication. The agency is seeking accountability for how the information regarding the ongoing weather situation was misrepresented, stressing the importance of accurate crisis communication.
