Spain has recorded a significant drop in unemployment figures as the month of April came to a close. The official statistics show a reduction of sixty seven thousand four hundred and twenty jobseekers, equating to a two point six one percent decline from March. The overall unemployment now stands at two million five hundred and twelve thousand seven hundred and eighteen, which is the lowest level seen since July two thousand eight. Year-on-year, there are one hundred and fifty three thousand seven hundred and eighty two fewer people unemployed, a five point seven seven percent reduction compared to April of last year.

The decline in unemployment is evident across various sectors, with the services sector witnessing the most significant decrease of forty nine thousand six hundred and sixty people. Construction, agriculture, and industry also saw reductions in jobless figures, while the number of individuals with no prior employment history decreased by seven thousand seven hundred. Interestingly, the latest data highlights a notable decline in unemployment among young people under the age of twenty five, with figures dropping by twenty thousand and ninety five in April alone—a decrease of ten point one seven percent.

Unemployment among women fell by thirty eight thousand two hundred and ninety one compared to March, while male unemployment also saw a decrease, amounting to twenty nine thousand one hundred and twenty nine jobseekers. This marks the first time since March two thousand eight that the total number of registered male unemployed has fallen below one million.

Further statistics reveal that every autonomous community in Spain experienced a drop in unemployment, with the highest reductions occurring in Andalucía, Cataluña, and Comunidad Valenciana. Additionally, during April, more than one million one hundred and forty thousand contracts were signed, with nearly five hundred and eight thousand being permanent. The unemployment benefit system covered approximately one million six hundred and twenty five thousand beneficiaries as of the end of March.
