In a significant counter-terrorism operation, agents from the National Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested three individuals for their alleged connections to jihadist terrorism. The suspects are accused of promoting extremist ideologies supportive of organisations like Daesh, and face charges of glorifying terrorism and making threats.

The arrests took place early on Monday in Castelldefels and Montcada i Reixac, near Barcelona. Authorities found evidence that the individuals were highly radicalised and actively used social media to disseminate jihadist propaganda aimed at indoctrinating others.

During searches of their residences, officers seized documents that referenced martyrdom and ‘lone wolf’ attacks, as well as electronic devices and a bayonet. One of the suspects was noted for his extreme radicalisation, having made direct threats against several individuals on social media platforms.

The case is being overseen by the Central Instruction Court number five and the General Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court, with investigations led by the Provincial Information Brigade of Barcelona in collaboration with national and regional police units. Following their judicial appearance, all three suspects have been placed in provisional custody.
