The Central Operational Unit of the Guardia Civil has announced that it found no relevant information in the materials received from Ireland and the United States regarding emails and WhatsApp messages of State Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz. This follows a report where the judge, Ángel Luis Hurtado, decided to lift the secrecy on the investigation due to the lack of findings regarding the evidence.

The analysis conducted revealed that no significant messages were found. It was noted that during a search, no messages were recovered from items confiscated from García Ortiz, who had previously changed his phone and deleted his personal email account devoid of relevant information.

The investigation focuses on a specific email dated February second, two thousand twenty-four, where an offer was allegedly made to the prosecutor investigating González Amado. The Guardia Civil confirmed that of the retrieved documents from Google, only one email was pertinent to the case, which was previously in their possession.

Political reactions have emerged following the news, with calls for García Ortiz’s resignation growing. The government’s consistent defence of his innocence contrasts with criticism suggesting that he should have presented his resignation earlier due to the mishandling of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
