The Madrid waste collection strike may soon come to an end as a pre-agreement has been reached between the service providers and unions. This agreement, however, is pending ratification by the workforce during an assembly scheduled for this Sunday.

The Madrid City Council is hopeful that workers will endorse the proposal, allowing essential services to resume for the citizens of Madrid. In their statement, the council praised the exemplary conduct of workers and residents throughout this challenging period.

The negotiations follow six days of conflict marked by the council’s threat to employ alternative companies if the strike continued, leading to fines that have now totalled two point four million euros for failing to meet minimum service requirements.

Workers will gather at eleven o’clock in Villaverde to cast their votes on the agreement reached by unions, including Comisiones Obreras, UGT, and the Professional Sector of Integrated Waste Management, along with subcontracted companies. The voting will take place until three o’clock in the afternoon.
